Salmon Wins 60-Meter Hurdles at JDL

Aisha Southern finished second in the women's 60m.

Paula Salmon won the 60-meter hurdles at the JDl Fast Track on Saturday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina A&T took many of their less-heralded men's and women's indoor track and field talent to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Saturday to compete in the Camel City Invitational.

It was, however, one of the Aggies more accomplished standouts who took center stage on Saturday. Sophomore Paula Salmon won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20. Salmon took first-place honors in the 60mh for the second time this season. She won the event at the University of Kentucky on Jan. 16 with a time of 8.30.

Salmon also put together the fastest qualifying time at the Camel City Invite by running an 8.20 in the 60mh qualifying round. Salmon is 16th in the nation in the 60mh after running an 8.17 at the Clemson University last week.

The Aggie women also had a good showing in the 60 meters. Junior Aisha Southern finished second with a time of 7.71. It was her first competition since competing at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) indoor championships last February.

In the men's 60m, junior Malcolm Croom-McFadden had the fastest qualifying time at 6.86. Junior Kendall Tucker also qualified at 7.04. Tucker would go on to finish third in the 60m final at 6.95, but Croom-McFadden did not make the start.

Two freshmen, Nia Frederick and Ania Campbell, performed well in the women's 600m. Frederick finished third in 1:39.87, and Campbell finished fourth in 1:41.81.

The Aggies also competed in the men's and women's 800, the men's 3000m and the men's and women's mile.

Sophomore Ayoola Gbolade had the top time for the Aggies in the women's 800m with a time of 2:12.80 to finish seventh. On the men's side, freshman Thomas Mosley clocked in the fastest for A&T at 1:57.65 to finish eighth.

Sophomore Jordan Richardson ran a 9:06.32 in the men's 3000m. In the women's mile, freshman Camille Herring finished in 5:39.55, and on the men's side, Morris Kimble had the best A&T time as he crossed in 4:27.59.

N.C. A&T will compete in a last chance meet in Virginia Beach, Va., on Feb. 25 to replace the canceled 2021 MEAC indoor championships.
