Men's Tennis Has Success at Wake Forest

Men's tennis wins all four matches it played on Friday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina A&T men's tennis won all four matches played, three singles and a doubles contest on the first day of the Wake Forest Invitational Friday.

Esteban Lopez (6-3, JR, Bogotá, Colombia) defeated Davidson's Sam Kavarana 6-3, 6-3 to advance to face Campbell's Benjamin Maes in the quarterfinals of the B2 Singles East.

In the first set, Lopez was leading 5-3 after breaking Kavarana's serve en route to the first set win and did the same in the second set. Then, after breaking Kavarana's serve for a 4-1 lead, both Kavarana and Lopez won two games as Lopez won in straight sets.

Playing in the same bracket, Eder Blanco (6-1, FR, Madrid, Spain) defeated Stetson's Sami Ozzor 6-3, 6-3, advancing to play North Florida's Joe Ellis in the quarterfinals.

Leading in the second set 4-3, Blanco served his way to a 5-3 lead before breaking Ozzor's serve to win the set and match.

Nolan Martino (5-7, SR, Concord, N.C.) won his first set against Bluefield State's Teddy Razafindratsima 6-2 but lost the second set 6-2, forcing a third set. Martino won the final set 6-2 to advance to face Campbell's Ted Williams in the B3 Singles East.

After advancing due to injury, Lopez and Blanco paired together and defeated Campbell's Damien Nezar and Maes 6-3 to move to the A2 Doubles East finals.

The Aggie duo faces the No. 2 seed in Duke's Connor Krug and Niroop Vallabhaneni for the bracket championship.

The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday in the final fall tournament of the season for the Aggies.
