Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated, Beats Shaw U

The Aggies have three freshmen who are undefeated.

GREENSBORO – It appears as long as the North Carolina A&T men's tennis team keeps bringing its big game and awesome energy, things will continue to turn out well during the 2026 season.

The Aggies have displayed both over their first four matches, including on Sunday when they defeated Shaw University 7-0 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. Four matches into the season, the Aggies are 4-0 and have not lost a doubles or singles match.

"I'm proud of the whole team," said sophomore Jindrich Brill. "The energy was everywhere on the court."

The energy started in doubles, with Brill teaming with junior Kaua Santos at No. 1 doubles. The duo defeated Edoardo Brustia and Andres Ayala 6-0. The duo remains perfect at No. 1 doubles. Brill said he and Santos played an aggressive style of tennis. In addition, they were focused on their dominance at No. 1 doubles. Senior Mathieu Dussaubat then teamed with freshman Niklas Laux to defeat Shaw's Kristian Bilojelic and Franco Vedda 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Freshmen Illia Olefir and Ben Werle completed the sweep by taking down Carlos Alcala and Scott Ndengoue 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

"We played well in doubles, and we returned well," said Dussaubat about his No. 2 doubles win with Laux. "I think that was key to today's match."

Santos got the Aggies off to a good start during singles play. The Aggies' No. 1 singles player had another impressive showing. He defeated Brustia 6-1, 6-1. Santos improved to 4-0 on the season in his new role as A&T's No. 1 singles player. He improved his career record to 31-7.

"We played excellently," Santos said about his doubles match with Brill. "My partner was very good. My singles was a very good match for me also. My opponent was hitting big shots, but I was able to deal with it. I'm very proud of the team. We took care of business."

Santos's doubles partner, Brill, also looked great in singles action. Brill defeated Bilojelic 6-1, 6-1. Brill improved to 19-3 for his career. Brill said he went for it during singles play and played every ball with 100 percent effort. "And it was excellent," he said.

Laux remained undefeated as a collegiate tennis player by defeating Vedda 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Freshman Gabriel Linovic stepped in at No. 5 singles to defeat Ayala 6-1, 6-2, giving the Aggies a 5-0 lead. The Aggies closed out their shutout against the Bears with wins from Dussaubat and Olefir.

Dussuabat beat Ndengoue at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Meanwhile, Olefir also remained undefeated as a collegiate player, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Alcala.

"I didn't play my best in the singles match," said Dussaubat. "I had to lean more toward my competitive energy, which helped me a lot. Overall, I'm really happy for the guys and the win."
