MANHATTAN, Kan. – North Carolina A&T women's basketball played its third and final game of the Preseason WNIT in four days Monday with a 73-49 loss to host Kansas State in Bramlage Coliseum.
"Even with the loss today, I felt like I didn't have to talk about effort and competing at halftime or at the end of the game," A&T coach Tarrell Robinson said. "That's progress in my book. If we can maintain those things and focus on our execution, we will start getting the results we want. I wish we took more advantage of the 20 turnovers we forced, but we'll get there."
In all three games in Manhattan, the Aggies committed fewer turnovers than their opponent.
Chanin Scott (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with team-highs in points (15) and rebounds (9). She also added a game-high four steals on 7-for-17 shooting from the field.
Rochelle Lee (Memphis, Tenn.) added seven points and four rebounds and Jazmin Harris (McLeansville, N.C.) added six points.
Kansas State took a 14-2 lead with 5:44 remaining the opening quarter, but a jumper from Harris and a layup from Shareka McNeill (Charlotte, N.C.) cut the Wildcats lead to 19-13 with 45 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Wildcats answered with a Jaelyn Glenn 3-pointer before a Jordyn Dorsey jumper in the lane got the Aggies to within seven at 22-15. Two Serena Sundell free throws gave the Wildcats a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
All seven of Lee's points came in the opening quarter.
The Wildcats scored the first 11 points in the second quarter to extend their lead 33-15, with 6:45 remaining in the first half. The Aggies scored the next four points to cut the lead to 33-19 with 5:47 left. That is the closest they would get the rest of the way as the Wildcats held a 44-24 halftime lead.
Ayoka Lee led the Wildcats with 31 points and with 13 rebounds for a double-double. She also added seven blocks, while Serena Sundell added 15 points and seven assists.
