NORTH CAROLINA A&T (15-7, 7-3 BIG SOUTH):Â The Aggies won four consecutive matches Friday with a straight set win against Gardner-Webb at Moore Gymnasium.
A&T enters the weekend in a third-place tie with USC Upstate in the Big South Conference standings. They both trail first-place High Point University (10-0) by three matches. Â
Naiya Sawtelle (6-0, FR, outside hitter, Stuart, Fla.) and Andrea Laboy-Rivera (5-5, SR, libero, Coamo, Puerto Rico) received a weekly award from the Big South. Sawtelle earned freshman of the week, and Laboy-Rivera came away with libero of the week accolades.
This season, N.C. A&T has out-blocked their opponents in 16 of the 22 matches, including nine Big South foes. Â
Head coach Hal Clifton has a 70-50 (.583) record since 2017, and he is 41-11 (.788) against conference opponents over that same span. The Aggies are guaranteed to .500 or better for the fifth consecutive season under Clifton. In addition, the Aggies are two wins away from having the most wins they have ever had during the Clifton era.            Â
 HAMPTON PIRATES (2-15, 1-9 BIG SOUTH): Hampton defeated Radford 3-0 the last time out for its first Big South win of the season. The Pirates host High Point Friday before facing the Aggies Saturday.Â
 Clara Smith leads the Pirates in kills per set (2.71), and Brooke Irvin leads the team in assists per set (5.84). Smith and Gabby Calloway combined to post seven kills apiece in the Pirates three-set loss to N.C. A&T at Moore Gymnasium earlier this season. Jessica Pugh led the Pirates in digs with 11 and Isis Black posted five total blocks.Â
 Sonja Maksimovic is in her first season at Hampton. She played at Hampton from 2011-14 and was part of back-to-back Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships in 2013 and 2014.
 CAMPBELL FIGHTING CAMELS (14-8, 9-1 BIG SOUTH): Campbell's only conference loss was a 3-2 matchup against High Point on Oct. 8. The Fighting Camels have won five straight since, including a thrilling 3-2 win over N.C. A&T at Moore.    Â
 Chloe Cook, Sarah Colla, Melody Paige and Lailah Green all had double-figure kills in the earlier matchup with the Aggies. Cook led the way with 16 kills, and Colla followed with 15. Madee Minor posted 27 assists, and Emily Mitter followed with 18. Claranne Fletcher led the Camels with 24 digs.Â
 Greg Goral enters his ninth season. He is the longest-tenured coach in program history. Campbell reached the Big South championship match in 2015 and 2019. Their previous appearance in a conference championship match was 1989.Â
THE SERIES: Campbell leads the series 26-5 and has won the last 12 matchups. The last Aggie win came in 2005, a 3-0 victory in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Aggies won the first 24 meetings against the Pirates. A&T leads the series 26-3. Â
SINGLE-SEASON NOTES:Â
- Shaylynn Hall's 90 block assists this season is tied for the sixth-most in a season for an Aggie.
- Mallory Porcher has 74 block assists this season and needs five more to move into 10th place all the school's single-season list.
- Naiya Sawtelle has recorded 283 kills this season and needs 83 to move into the top-10 on the single-season list. Â
- Andrea Laboy-Rivera has recorded 303 digs this season and needs 72 to move into the top-10.
 CAREER NOTES:Â
- Edie Brewer needs 41 kills to move into fifth place past Mara Davis' (1996-99) 910. Brewer ranks seventh all-time in block assists with 202 and needs 12 block assists to move into fourth place past Jasmine Lindor's (2014-17) 213.Â
- Brewer's 166 service aces put her 20 behind Brenden Chatman (2004-07) for second place. She needs seven digs to record her 1,000th.
- Addy Warfield has 1,040 assists and needs one more to move into eighth place, past Tara Cote (2003) 1,040.
- Hall has 232 block assists to rank third in school history and has 44 solo blocks. Hall needs one solo block to move past Lindor (2014-17).Â
- Laboy-Rivera is 10th all-time with 72 service aces and needs four services aces to move into ninth place in front of Aleena McDaniel (2012-15). In addition, Laboy-Rivera has 1,370 digs and needs 83 to move into second place in front of Lauren Walker (2004-06).Â
- Fatimah Shabazz has 156 block assists to rank eighth in school history and needs 33 block assists to move in front of Mara Davis (1996-99).
- Mallory Porcher has 130 block assists and needs 11 block assists to move into the top-10, held by Alyssa Pitt (2015-17).
