Aggies Lose Close One to Dartmouth

A double leads Dartmouth to victory in the eighth.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – North Carolina A&T softball finished the Charleston Invitational with a 2-1 loss to Dartmouth (3-2) in eight innings.
Sophomore center fielder Eternal Fuller scored the only run while designated player Hailee Cutts recorded an RBI and walked. Freshman Kayla Douglas (1-3) picked up the loss in a complete game giving up two unearned runs.

Dartmouth scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning after a throwing error by the catcher allowed a runner to score, but the Aggies tied the game in the fifth inning at 1.

Sophomore center fielder Eternal Fuller started the inning reaching on an error and junior second baseman Stephanie Williams sacrificed Fuller to third base for the first out of the inning. Cutts hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home Fuller.

Dartmouth started the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles before a double play put two outs on the board. Another single put runners on the corners, but the runner on first was caught stealing for the final out.

Neither team got a hit until the eighth inning when a double drove home a runner with two outs after the inning started with a runner at second by rule.

Dartmouth was led by Billie McFadyen going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Madie Augusto (2-2) picked up the win pitching the final 4.2 innings giving up one unearned run.

The Aggies return to Greensboro and travel to UNC Greensboro Wednesday at 4 p.m.
