Softball Loses Twice In Charleston

Eternal Fuller goes a combined 2-for-5

CHARLESTON, S.C. – North Carolina A&T softball dropped the first two games of the Charleston Invitational at the Charleston Southern University (CSU) Softball Field Friday.
The Aggies fell to Bradley 11-0 in five innings in the first game and lost to host Charleston Southern 10-1 in five innings in the second game.

Sophomore center fielder Eternal Fuller led the Aggies going 2-for-5 at the plate in two games. Junior second basemen Stephanie Williams recorded the only RBI and sophomore third baseman Desttany Parker scored the only run.

In the first game, Bradley scored nine runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning.  All 11 runs were unearned.
Fuller and junior designated player Hailee Cutts each went 1-for-2 at the plate. Freshman pitcher Kayla Brown (1-1) picked up the win giving up zero earned runs on four hits.

The Braves had a nine-run second. Lucy Mead had a two-run RBI double to give the Braves a 3-0 lead. The other big blow in the inning was a two-run homer from Allison Apke that gave the Braves a 9-0 advantage.

The Aggies best chance of scoring a run was in the second inning. Sophomore first basemen Vivica Boyd was hit by a pitch to open the inning. A groundout to third advance Boyd to second.  Another groundout to third advanced Boyd to third with two outs. A groundout to the shortstop ended the inning.

In the second game, CSU scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. The biggest blow for CSU came in the third inning thanks to two-run RBI double by Madison Koger that gave the Bucs a 9-0 lead.

The Aggies (1-8) recorded a run in the top of the fifth inning to cut final deficit to nine runs.  Parker walked with one out. Senior shortstop Alyssa Smith was hit by a pitch followed by an error that loaded the bases. After a line out, Williams singled up the middle to drive home Parker.

Williams and catcher Nikki Varela each went 1-for-2 and Fuller went 1-for-3. In the circle, junior Bayleigh Kirby (0-4) picked up the loss pitching the first inning giving up seven runs, five earned and two hits.

The Aggies continue the tournament at College of Charleston on Saturday with a 10 a.m., game against Appalachian State and 4:45 p.m., game against No. 24 Virginia Tech. On Sunday, they close the tournament against Dartmouth at 9 a.m.
