EAST GREENSBORO – Junior guard
Kameron Langley notched his second-straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead North Carolina A&T to an overtime victory over Florida A&M, 97-90, in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's basketball action Monday night in the Corbett Sports Center.
Langley also had six assists on the night.
N.C. A&T moves to 5-11 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC as they won their 18
th straight game over a conference opponent at Corbett. The Aggies also improve to 4-1 at home this season.
The Aggies led 43-29 at the break and led by as many as 20 with just over 18 minutes remaining in the contest. FAMU (2-10, 0-2 MEAC) stormed back and took the lead on a Rod Melton, Jr. 3-pointer to make it 70-68 with 7:25 remaining. Melton, Jr. led the Rattlers in scoring with 24 points. The Aggies trailed by as many as five, 79-74, with two minutes to play.
Then, a Langley free throw was followed by a Langley steal and layup to cut FAMU's lead to 79-77. After FAMU's Nasir Cohen missed two free throws, Langley got into the lane and scored on a runner to tie the game at 79 with 45 seconds remaining. Langley kept the pressure on FAMU as he grabbed a defensive rebound to give the Aggies a chance to win the game.
He dished it to senior guard
Andre Jackson who missed a good look at a 3-pointer. He got his own rebound and eventually got it to senior forward
Ronald Jackson who was fouled with six seconds remaining.
Ronald Jackson hit both free throws to give the Aggies an 81-79 lead. Jackson notched his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds. After a timeout, the Rattlers MJ Rudolph took a long inbound pass and raced down the floor for a layup to tie the game at 81 and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Aggies went on a quick 10-0 run courtesy of some great shooting from junior guard
Tyler Maye who poured in a team-high 24 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Maye shot 4-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. The 10-0 run was capped off by an alley-oop dunk from junior
Kwe Parker to give the Aggies a 91-81 lead with 1:50 remaining in overtime.
FAMU went on a 6-0 run, however, to keep things interesting; but, the Aggies went 6-for-6 from the line down the stretch to earn the conference win.
Andre Jackson compiled 16 points to round out double-figure scoring for the Aggies. The Aggies jumped out to a 13-6 lead with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half. They extended their advantage to 12 after a
Ronald Jackson dunk and led by as many as 14 after a Maye layup just before the end of the first half.
N.C. A&T never trailed in the first half. Looking ahead, the Aggies will hit the road to take on Maryland Eastern-Shore on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.
