CHARLOTTE – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team stumbled against the Charlotte 49ers, 5-2, on Saturday evening in the Queen City. The Aggies fall to 0-2 on the season.
In No. 4 singles, N.C. A&T senior
Jorge Goenaga defeated Collin Thomson 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-8 (7-4) to earn a point and his first victory of the season.
Next, in No. 5 singles, N.C. A&T's
Esteban Lopez beat Cole Brainard 6-7 (5-7), 6-5, 7-6 (10-7) to earn the other point for the Aggies.
In No. 6 singles,
Nolan Martino (N.C. A&T) battled Peter Glenn. Glenn took the first set 6-3, but Martino responded and won the second set 6-2. In the third set, Martino fought until the very end, but eventually fell, 7-5.
In doubles action, Charlotte claimed two of the three matches to earn the point. In No. 2 doubles, Goenaga and Lopez teamed up to defeat Thomson and Ignasi de Rueda, 6-2.
Charlotte's Benjamin Wayand defeated
Nicolas Arduh 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Charlotte's Henry Lieberman beat
Marko Puric 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Charlotte's Leonardo Menezes defeated
Vasil Ivanov, 6-1, 6-4.
Next up, the Aggies will take on Liberty Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. in Lynchburg, Va.
