Aggies Roll Past Eastern Shore

McCray and Jones-Pack record double-doubles

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – North Carolina A&T women's basketball are two games into the conference season and they already have two impressive blowouts. Five days after beating Florida A&M by 27, the Aggies had a convincing 67-31 win over Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday afternoon at the Hytche Athletic Center.

It was the Aggies 26th straight win against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition in the regular-season and their fourth straight win overall this season. The Aggies are an impressive 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the MEAC.

N.C. A&T held the Hawks to 20.8 percent shooting from the floor and 15 percent from 3-point range.

"Great defensive game, holding them to 31 points," head coach Tarrell Robinson said.

Five Aggies scored in double-figures and two recorded double-doubles. Senior guard Cinia McCray finished 13 points and 10 rebounds, while junior center Jayla Jones-Pack secured her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

"Cinia is a power guard," Robinson said.  "It's good to see her actually contribute with eight defensive rebounds. This whole season Jayla has been able to stay in the game. She's been productive and this is just another example of that."

Junior forward Deja Winters led the Aggies with 15 points off the bench shooting 5-for-7 from the floor including 3-for-4 from 3-point range and added three rebounds and two blocks.

Sophomore guard Jasmen Walton added 11 points and senior guard C'coriea Foy added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
UMES (3-12, 0-2 MEAC) captured its only lead of the game after a layup to lead 2-0 at the 9:00 mark. The Aggies scored the next 12 points to take a 10-point lead that included back-to-back 3-pointers from Foy and Winters to force a UMES timeout with 5:18 remaining in the opening quarter.

"Deja definitely was a spark off the bench," Robinson said.  "She responded the way that I anticipated and that got us going, got us flowing."

N.C. A&T scored 21 first-quarter points and led by 14 at the end of the first quarter. The first point of the second quarter was not scored until the 7:20 mark on a made free throw by the Hawks.

The Aggies responded with a 6-0 run to push their lead to 19 at 27-9 with 5:45 remaining in the first half. Two made free throws from Jones-Pack gave the Aggies a 15-point halftime lead at 30-15.

The Aggies put the game away by scoring the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 39-15 lead. Walton's 3-pointer increased the Aggie lead to 42-16 with 4:20 remaining in the third. Foy's layup with 44 seconds remaining in the quarter gave the Aggies a 44-16 lead before the Hawks scored to end the period trailing by 26.

The Aggies have now won 17 straight road games against MEAC competition. The Hawks were led by Mya Thomas with seven points. The Aggies continue their four-game road swing with a trip to Dover, Del., to face Delaware State Monday at 5:30 p.m.
