PEORIA, Ill. – Sophomore forward Tyrone Lyons scored a career-high 17 points on 4-7 shooting, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies fell to Bradley, 83-52, on Saturday afternoon in Peoria, Ill.
"Basketball games are 40 minutes," said head coach Jay Joyner. "A lot of preparation goes into a scouting report. When you go toe-to-toe with a team for 20 minutes and you're right there, it's just unfortunate that we didn't compete for 40 minutes."
N.C. A&T falls to 3-7 overall.
For the second straight game, senior forward Ronald Jackson nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. The other Aggie in double-figures was freshman Fred Cleveland, Jr. with 11 points. The Aggies did shoot 17-19 (89.5%), by far their best performance at the line this year.
Both teams went scoreless for the first 2:06 of the game until Bradley's Danya Kingsby scored a fastbreak layup. A&T would answer and take the lead on the next possession courtesy of an Andre Jackson three pointer. It was a back-and-forth first half that saw A&T hold a couple leads, their largest being three. Trailing 30-22 with under two minutes remaining, the Aggies utilized a 6-0 run over 1:14 and cut the deficit to two. Bradley would make two free throws afterwards and take a four-point advantage into the locker room.
The second half was a different story. The Braves went on a 7-0 run in under two minutes to jump out to an 11-point lead. This was the start of a 36-8 run that lasted over 12 minutes. The Aggies shot just 25 percent in the second half and couldn't climb out of the hole eventually falling to the Braves, 83-52.
Looking ahead, N.C. A&T will have over a week off before heading to Dallas, Texas to play in Don Haskins Invitational on Dec. 16-17. Their first opponent is UTEP on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
