EAST GREENSBORO – Two North Carolina A&T football players received postseason honors from HERO Sports on Wednesday.
Jacob Roberts (6-0, 218, FR, linebacker, Charlotte, N.C.) earned first-team freshman All-American honors while
Dacquari Wilson (6-2, 280, SO, center, Greensboro, N.C.) was named honorable mention sophomore All-American by HERO Sports.
"Jacob is everything we thought he would be when we recruited him," said N.C. A&T coach
Sam Washington. "Now, he still has a lot of improving to do and we want him to get better. But it's obvious to anyone that he can play this game."
Roberts heads into this week's Celebration Bowl the third-leading tackler on the Aggies with 56 tackles (35 unassisted). He leads the Aggies in tackles for loss with 11.5 for 47 yards lost. He is third on the team in sacks with 4.5 for 22 yards lost. He also has an interception.
In the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Roberts ranks seventh in tackles for loss, 13
th in sacks and 14
th in tackles. Nationally, Roberts was 41
st in the country in tackles for loss and 71
st in sacks.
His standout game came against Howard on Oct. 26 when he made 15 tackles (10 unassisted), 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. For his efforts, he was named FCS national freshman of the week by STATS and MEAC rookie of the week. Roberts earned second-team all-conference honors after the regular season.
Wilson was a first-team All-MEAC selection. He was on the field for 715 of the Aggies 733 snaps played thus far this season. The Aggies starting center graded out at 82 percent as the Aggies get set to play this weekend. He was flagged only seven times this season and recorded 21 knockdown blocks.
Wilson was a part of an offensive line that helped the Aggies produce the No. 1 total offense, scoring offense and rush offense in the MEAC.
N.C. A&T (8-3, 6-2 MEAC) will face Alcorn State in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl 12 p.m., Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Aggies are going after their fourth HBCU national title in five years and their third straight overall.
