Men's Tennis Falls to Wake Forest, Caban Earns Singles Point

WINSTON-SALEM (April 2, 2017) – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team closed out their match against Wake Forest University with a singles win but ultimately fell to the Demon Deacons 5-2 on Sunday at Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem.

N.C. A&T lost all but one of the six singles matches. The Aggies had one player win in singles as junior Brett Caban won at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-3 (10-5) victory over Charles Parry. The Aggies second singles point came from a defaulted match in the No. 6 singles spot.

The day started with sophomore Nicolas Arduh losing to Christian Seraphim 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Niko Barr then lost to Dennis Upensky at No. 2 singles, 6-1. Freshman Adair Bartra dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-2 against Alan Gadjiev. Rounding out the singles play for the Aggies, John Wilson IV fell at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-4 against Maksim Kan.

The Aggies played a talented Wake Forest team and led on all three courts before the Deacons rallied back to take all three matches and secure the doubles point. Christian Seraphim and Alan Gadjiev took a 7-5 win over Nicolas Arduh and Niko Barr in the No. 1 match.

At No. 2 doubles, Jorge Bartra and John Wilson IV were defeated by Skander Mansouri and Maksim Kan, 7-5. Closing out the No. 3 doubles match with a win for the Deacons, Dennis Upensky and Charles Parry beat Jordan Lawrence and Brett Caban, 7-6 (10-8).

N.C. A&T stays at home for their next two matches as they host conference foes Bethune-Cookman on Friday April 7 and Florida A&M on Saturday April 8. Both matches will be played at Aggie Tennis Complex and both start at 2 p.m.
