Coupo-Moison Bids Farewell By Leading A&T over North Carolina Wesleyan

Said Akbarov improved to 16-3 in singles play this season.

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Lucas Coupo-Moison called his participation in the North Carolina A&T men's tennis team's 4-3 win over North Carolina Wesleyan (NCW) at Bishops Tennis Center on Tuesday his final match as an Aggies tennis player.

He went out in style. Coupo-Moison had a win at No. 2 doubles before his victory at No. 2 singles helped the Aggies clinch the win over the Battling Bishops. The Aggies, who improved to 14-6 overall with the help of Coupo-Moison, are scheduled to play in the Nat Warren Invitational hosted by Norfolk State University, April 19-20.

"For my last match ever, I made my first clinch for the team," said Coupo-Moison. I am extremely proud and happy to bring this last career win after a tough battle."

During the doubles portion of the match, Coupo-Moison teamed with freshman Jindrich Brill to defeat NCW's Bohdan Zhylchuk and Francesco Raparo 6-3.

"He took care of business, brought the energy, and played really well," Coupo-Moison said about Brill. "I enjoyed so much playing doubles with him this season."

The Coupo-Moison/Brill triumph marked A&T's only win in doubles on Tuesday. At No. 3 doubles, the Bishop team of Carorestie and Diego Segovia defeated sophomore Kaua Santos and senior Ethan Baly 6-2. The Bishops clinched the doubles point when Albert Sitwell and Luca Knese beat sophomore Said Akbarov and senior Ian Pedersen 7-6, 8-6 in the tiebreaker.

Santos evened the match for the Aggies at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-3 win over Shori Nishizoe. Santos improved to 12-8 this season. The Bishops recaptured the lead when Carorestie defeated Baly 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Akbarov secured A&T's second win with his 7-5, 6-4 win over Logan Stoltz 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

Akbarov improved to 16-3, tying Esteban Lopez's single-season wins record from last season. He has won 31 singles matches over the first two years of his career thus far. However, Zhylchuk put the Bishops on the brink of victory with his 7-6, 7-6 win over Pedersen.

Fortunately for the Aggies, the doubles team of Brill and Coupo-Moison came through as individuals to lead the Aggies. Brill secured a three-set win over Segovia, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Brill was playing at No. 1 for the first time this season. He is 15-3 overall in 2025.

"I'm very happy with my tennis today," said Brill. "It was a very tough match today. I didn't stop fighting and won my last match of the season. I'm also proud of my team that we managed to win it today and have a successful season like this."

Coupo-Moison closed and finished the Bishops with a 6-3, 6-7, and 6-1 win over Knese. The win improved Coupo-Moison to 11-8 this season. This season, he is 5-3 as the Aggies No. 2 singles player. Coupo-Moison is 24-12 for his career.

"It's my time to leave, and I wish the young team a lot of success," said Coupo-Moison. They work hard and deserve it. I'll be forever an Aggie. Aggie Pride."
