Aggies Lose to Radford, Win Doubles Point

RADFORD, Va. (March 18, 2017) – The North Carolina A&T women's tennis team fell to 2-11 on the season after a 6-1 loss on Saturday against the Highlanders of Radford University.

N.C. A&T lost all six singles matches but did win the doubles point by winning two out of three doubles matches. The duo of Angelica Martinez and Nadia Hilton-Adams defeated Drousile Dzeubou and Claire Nguyen 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, the team of Klara Smolikova and Kanishka Chawla beat the team of Karlie Pope and Yuliia Popovo 7-5.

Singles play would not go so well for the Lady Aggies. Junior Khalia Powell fought hard at No. 1 singles; after losing the first set 6-0, she battled back during the second before ultimately losing 7-5 to Radford's Dzeubou. At No. 5 singles, Aggie freshman Klara Smolikova also contended for the match, winning the first set 7-5, but lost the second set as well 6-2. Sophomore Angelica Martinez lost 6-1, 6-0 to Radford's Natalie Sayer at No. 2 singles while Junior Nadia Hilton-Adams lost both sets 6-3 to Meili Martin at No. 4 singles.

N.C. A&T takes to the road for their next match against Division II Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on March 24 at 1 p.m.
