Women's Tennis Loses to ECU, Plays Regular-Season Finale at Shaw

The Aggies lost two three-set matches to ECU.

GREENVILLE, NC – The North Carolina A&T women's tennis team lost to a talented East Carolina University (ECU) team 7-0 Saturday afternoon at River Birch Tennis Complex.  

The Aggies endured only their third shutout loss of the season as they fell to 8-10 during the 2025 season. ECU improved to 7-11 overall.

ECU took the doubles point, sweeping all three matches, including a forfeit at No. 3 doubles. ECU also won at No. 2 with Anne Lou Champion and Martina Muzzolon. They beat sophomore Randy Rakotoarilala and freshman Dorsa Cheraghi 6-1.

Saturday marked the first time Rakotoarilala and Cheraghi teamed together. Doubles play ended when ECU's Ines Bachir and Xenia Jeromin defeated freshman Juana Gomez Weiss and junior Hana El Sherif 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Saturday also marked the first time Gomez Weiss and El Sherif have partnered this season.

ECU captured a 2-0 lead with a forfeit at No. 6 singles before Gomez Weiss lost to Muzzolon 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Flavia Villegas lost at No. 5 singles, dropping the match 6-3, 6-1 to Lilly Lancaster. Gomez Weiss and Villegas still lead the team in singles wins with 10.

Rakotoarilala lost at No. 1 singles to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead. Rakotoarilala dropped to 8-9 this season with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Bachir. A&T followed by putting on two three-set matches. Cheraghi lost to Isabella Rivera Ortiz 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. El Sherif also had an excellent showing before falling short.

El Sherif lost the first set to Jeromin 7-5 before bouncing back to win set No. 2 6-3. The two ladies then had an amazing third set that Jeromin won 12-10.

A&T closes its regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against the Shaw Bears in Raleigh, NC.
