BUIES CREEK – Campbell starter Grant Yost (RHP) and right-hand reliever Chris Walkerow combined to throw a two-hitter against the North Carolina A&T baseball team on Saturday in a 14-1 win at Jim Perry Stadium.
It was a deviation away from the way N.C. A&T (4-16) has hit lately. In five of the Aggies previous seven games they recorded double-figure hits with the only two exceptions being three hits against N.C. Central on March 12 and nine hits against Winthrop on March 16.
N.C. A&T did have base runners on before the fifth inning but did not earn their first until the fifth. The inning also led to the Aggies first run. Sophomore Forest Kimbrell reached on an error with two outs in the inning. Freshman Jason King took advantage of the miscue by doubling to left field to score Kimbrell.
The Aggies other hit came in the sixth on an infield single by sophomore Milton Rivera. Yost retried the next six batters before the eighth inning when pinch-hitter James Rorie reached because he was hit by a Walkerow pitch and sophomore Myles Sowell walked. Walkerow did not give up another base runner from there. The two teams will play again on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m., at Jim Perry Stadium.
Anthony Lopez led the Camels by going 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Jimmy Monaghan was 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored.
