Lancers Get Even With Aggies

FARMVILLE, Va. –  A night after putting together their first complete game in almost a year, the North Carolina A&T baseball team had the favor returned to them on Saturday. Longwood left-hander Brandon Vick went nine innings and recorded six strikeouts, only one walk and seven hits in 113 pitches in an 8-3 win over the Aggies at Bolding Stadium.

Sophomore Kyle Clary and freshman Adan Ordonez had two hits apiece for the Aggies. Sophomore Timothy Ravare went 0-for-4 and thus saw his nine-game hitting streak coming to an end. A&T starter Charles Cantrell (RHP) went five innings and walked only one batter, but the Lancers (15-18) had some timely hitting in the win.

The Aggies would actually take the lead over Vick in the fourth inning thanks to freshman third baseman A.J. Hunt. Huntl nailed his second career homer, a solo shot to left center field to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead. But the Lancers quickly responded in their half of the fourth. Michael Osinski hit a three-run home run off of Cantrell to give the Lancers the lead for good as they went ahead 4-2.

The Lancers added four more runs to take a six-run lead going into the eighth. In the meantime, Vick was cruising through his innings. He did not give up a hit in the fifth and sixth innings. After giving up a leadoff hit to Clary, he retired the next three batters to end the inning.

The Aggies (4-28) did get to Vick in the eighth as Ordonez doubled to right field and was brought home by an Erik Montero single. But the Aggies went down in order in the ninth to give Vick (2-4) the win. Cantrell dropped to 0-5 on the season.

Osinski led the Lancers by going 3-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI. Kyrie Washington went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. A&T will try to win its first series of the season when it faces the Lancers again Sunday at 1 p.m., from Bolding Stadium.
