FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior right-hander Brian Poag threw a complete-game four-hitter to help the North Carolina A&T baseball team break a 12-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Longwood at Bolding Stadium, Friday night. The win also marked the Aggies (4-28) first road win of the season.
Poag (1-4) put together the team's first complete game of the season by going nine innings, striking out four and giving up only one earned run. Poag's complete game was the Aggies first since Tyler Boone went nine innings in a 3-0 win over Marist on April 12, 2014 at War Memorial Stadium. It only took Poag 100 pitches to take care of business on Friday.
Offensively, senior Brandon Wilkerson put together his team-leading 12th multiple-hit game with a 2-for-5 night that included two RBI and a run scored. Wilkerson also leads the team in multi-RBI games with seven.
Sophomore Timothy Ravare extended his hitting streak to nine games. It is the longest hitting streak of the season for any Aggie.
The Aggies (4-28) broke a 2-2 game in the fifth. Freshman Myles Sowell earned a one-out infield single and moved to second on a balk by starter Aaron Myers (RHP). Sowell went to third on a wild pitch. Wilkerson then recorded his fourth two-out of the season with an RBI double down the left field line to score Sowell for a 3-2 Aggies lead.
After freshman Milton Rivera reached on an error and Adan Ordonez walked, Myers walked Kyle Clary to force in another run to put the Aggies ahead 4-2. The Aggies added another run in the eighth. With senior pinch-hitter Micah Carmony on second, Ravare singled through the left side, advancing Carmony to third. Carmony scored the Aggies fifth run as Sowell grounded out to third to bring him home.
Poag took care of the rest. He retired 12 out of the last 13 batters he faced to pick up the win. Myers (3-6) took the loss. Longwood's Kyrie Washington drove in two runs for the Lancers who dropped to 14-18 on the season.
