Aggies Keep Tournament Hopes Alive

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- North Carolina A&T baseball still has a chance. The Aggies split a doubleheader with Florida A&M on Saturday, winning the first game 7-3 in 12 innings and losing the seven-inning game 1-0.
Overall it was a good day for A&T. The Aggies (16-31, 9-14 MEAC) are now a half a game behind Savannah State for the fourth and final MEAC tournament berth out of the southern division after the Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader to Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
If the Aggies win and the Tigers lose on Sunday, the Aggies will advance to the tournament in Norfolk, Va., May 14-18.
Cameron Jergens, Dylan Hipp, Kyle Clary and Brandon Mitchell had two hits apiece in the first game. The Aggies finally took command of the game in the visitor's 12th.
Bo McMillan opened the inning with a double and Luke Tendler was intentionally walked. Jergens loaded the bases when he reached on a bunt single. Lester Salcedo then hit a towering fly ball to right field that Logan Seymour dropped, allowing McMillan and Tendler to score to give A&T a 5-3 lead.
Stefan Jordan's sacrifice fly to center scored Jergens, and the Aggies scored their final run of the inning on an RBI single by Mitchell that scored pinch-runner Micah Carmony
Justin Godette came on in the FAMU 12th and retried the Rattlers in order to secure the win. Luke McCreesh (2-0) picked up the win in relief. William Carrasco (3-5) took the loss.
Tyler Boone (2-7) was the tough-luck loser in Game 2. He gave up just four hits, but two of his walks did comeback to haunt him. He walked the first two batters he saw in the sixth, which led to Pete Jackson's RBI infield single that plated the only run of the game. Florida A&M (20-24, 12-10 MEAC) will host the Aggies again Sunday afternoon at 1.
