GREENSBORO-The North Carolina A&T volleyball team is excited to
announce another addition to its 2012 recruiting class. Maris Kellar, a
5-foot-8 right side and defensive specialist, will join the team as a walk-on
this fall.
Kellar, a broadcast journalism major, had a highly successful high
school career at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tenn. She earned third-team All-State, All
Mid-State and All-Region honors in 2011 after posting 343 kills, 291 digs and
229 blocks.
"If
it's true what they say about the size of the fight in the dog then Maris is a
perfect example of that," said Clifton. "Although a little undersized, she competes
hard, has a nice fluid arm swing and presents a distraction to attackers with
her block. She brings a lot of energy to
the court and will immediately add depth to our right side position."
Kellar competed with a number of club teams in and around
Nashville for five seasons starting in 2007.
Her Nashville Club West team earned first place at the Club West Classic
Invitational. Kellar also played
basketball for Father Ryan High School.
Kellar joins incoming freshmen Te'Borah
Hawkins-Hollingswoth (6-0, MB/OH, Laurinburg N.C., Scotland County High),
Aleena McDaniel (5-10, RS/MB, Indianapolis, Ind., Brebeuf Jesuit High School),
Ali Way (6-0, Setter, Stowell, Texas, East Chambers High School), Brooke
Stamnes (5-9, OH, Loreburn, Saskatchewan, Canada, Loreburn Central School), and
Ashley Johnson (5-6, DS/LIB, Honolulu, Hi., Moanalua High School) to help complete the 2013 A&T volleyball
roster.
The new-look Aggies open the season August
24 against St. Peter's College in the Western Carolina Wildcat Classic in
Cullowhee, N.C., at 4 p.m. Their first home match is Sept. 7 against American
University in the Spartan-Aggie Invitational.
