RICHMOND, Va. - North Carolina A&T had no answers for George Washington's efficient offense on Friday as GW defeated the Aggies 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-15) during the first day of the Virginia Commonwealth/Third Degree Sportswear Volleyball Invitational at the Siegel Center.
The Colonials (7-0) put together a .385 hitting percentage led by Kelsey Newman who posted 14 kills with just one attack error. Jenea Daniels led the Aggies with five kills, while Devonte' Reese finished with four.
"We played so much better in some areas," said N.C. A&T head coach Hal Clifton. "But we broke down in serve receive. Our effort was good, but we did not bring energy to the court."
N.C. A&T had a better showing in the third game. A Daniels kill moved cut the Colonials lead to 10-8. After falling behind by four, a Reese kill and a Daniels ace got to within two again at 13-11. GWU scored seven of the next eight points to put the Aggies away.
The Aggies play host VCU Saturday at 10 a.m., before playing their invitational finale Saturday afternoon at 3 against Cornell.
