TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Carolina A&T had trouble scoring runs on Saturday as Florida A&M took a softball doubleheader from the Aggies 5-0 and 8-0 at the Lady Rattler Complex.
FAMU completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies with the two victories. The Rattlers two-hit the Aggies in the first game. N.C. A&T came away with eight hits in the second contest. Ryanne Hill, Sabrina Edmonds and Tranea Jones had two hits apiece for N.C. A&T (6-26, 1-5).
The Aggies advanced only one runner past first base during the first game. That occurred in the sixth inning when Lauren Clement led off with a single. Pinch runner Niasia Calhoun moved to second on a Dominique Smith groundout. But a strikeout and a groundout left Calhoun stranded.
Whitney Robinson helped the Rattlers take command of the game as she hit a solo home run to left field in the Rattlers' half of the sixth inning. Britany Doty followed with another blast over the left field fence to give FAMU a 4-0 advantage.
The Rattlers (22-20, 5-1) big inning in the second game came in the first. Genesis Lopez aided FAMU with a two-run RBI single to right center. The Aggies play Savannah State Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m., in a doubleheader from the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.
