FREEMAN'S BIG DAY LEADS AGGIES TO DH SWEEP

BALTIMORE - Freshman Kelvin Freeman had one of the best games in the history of the North Carolina A&T program. Freeman went 4-for-5 with nine RBIs in a 23-2 win over Coppin State in doubleheader baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies won the first game 14-10.

Freeman's day included a grand slam and a two-run home run. Senior George Hines contributed with two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs. Sophomore Xavier Macklin added a three-run homer for the Aggies who improved to 24-23 overall and 14-3 in the MEAC. The Aggies have now won a school-record 14 conference games. They have also won those 14 games by an average of 10 runs.

Freeman is coming off of a week in which he was named MEAC Rookie of the Week. He is currently on a 10-game hitting streak, and is hitting .649 over that span with four home runs and 20 RBIs. He is now hitting .409 on the season.

Freeman added an RBI in the first game to end the day with 10. Nick Rogers, Alex Grubb, Marquis Riley and Macklin all homered in the first game for A&T. Rogers and Grubb had two RBIs apiece.

The Aggies trailed 3-2 in Game 1 before a three-run fourth fueled by an RBI single from Freeman gave them the lead. The Aggies increased their lead in the fifth. Dario Little led off the inning with a walk, which led to a two-run homer by Rogers. Macklin followed with another homer, marking the third time this season Rogers and Macklin have hit back-to-back home runs. Macklin's homer gave the Aggies an 8-3 lead.

Consecutive doubles by Reynoso and Black in the Eagles half of the fifth moved them to within two at 8-6. But the Aggies kept the pressure on. They scored three runs on two Coppin State wild pitches and a balk in the sixth.

An Eagles error allowed another Aggies run in the seventh, and when Hines singled up the middle to score Mark Nales the Aggies held a comfortable 13-6 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

Esterlin Paulino (7-2) earned the win in Game 1. Rogers improved to 9-3 on the season by striking out four. The two teams play again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
