Aggies Defeat Local Rivals

There is a game between the North Carolina A&T men's basketball team and another Greensboro institution on Monday. N.C. A&T head coach Jerry Eaves didn't like that his team lacked focused on the Greensboro institution the Aggies were playing Friday.

N.C. A&T got 14 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots from senior Thomas Coleman to knock off Greensboro College 79-58 at Corbett Sports Center. It was, however, not the performance Eaves wanted.

"I think we overlooked Greensboro College,'' said Eaves. "We didn't play with the enthusiasm that we needed, and we also shot the ball poorly. It was good to get a win, but I think we had our minds on what is going to happen on Monday. It's never good to look ahead when you have an opponent staring you in the face."

N.C. A&T dominated the first half. It didn't matter that the Aggies went the entire first half without a 3-pointer. Offense was hard to come by for The Pride because of the Aggies size advantage.

The Aggies (3-3) led 43-23 at the half thanks to seven first-half blocks, and The Pride's 8-for-35 shooting.

An Austin Witter 3-pointer gave the Aggies their biggest lead of the night at 72-43 with 6:11 remaining in the game. Despite the deficit, Greensboro College battled to grab 22 offensive rebounds against the larger Aggies.

"They are the scrappiest little team I ever seen,'' said Eaves, who saw his team shoot 2-for-17 from beyond the arc. "They could have come in here and let us play over their heads and get layups all night, but they contested every shot we put up. They made it difficult for us."

Damien Dixon had 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting for The Pride who dropped to 2-3 on the season.

"I thought we played hard,'' said GC head coach Bryan Galuski. "We played much better in the second half."

The Aggies face UNC Greensboro Monday night at 7 from the Greensboro Coliseum. It will be the first meeting between the two teams in eight years.
