Steven Rhodes was hired as North Carolina A&T women’s basketball assistant coach by head coach Tarrell Robinson on August 1, 2020.
Rhodes comes to N.C. A&T after a stint with Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. It was his second time coaching at the school. His latest stop at Belmont Abbey started in February of 2020 where he served as an assistant and a recruiting coordinator. His second time at the college started in April of 2017 and ended in August of 2019.
Belmont Abbey recorded a 67-22 record in three seasons and won the Conference Carolina regular-season championship last season, their first in 18 seasons. Belmont Abbey also made the Conference Carolina tournament championship game in 2019, their first appearance in 15 seasons.
He led the coordination of all recruiting responsibilities for the staff. He assisted in coaching Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and two-time first-team all-conference selection Maria Kuhlman and a three-time all-conference selection Allie Downing.
In between his time at Belmont Abbey, Rhodes coached at Radford University starting in August 2019 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Radford finished second in the Big South Conference, a game behind first-place Campbell. He led the development of Big South first-team all-conference selection Khiana Johnson and second-team all-conference selection Sydney Nunley.
His first coaching job after college was an assistant coach at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 2016. Harcum went 25-8, the first 25-win season in eight seasons. They were also Region XIX tournament champions, the first in five seasons.
Prior to Harcum, Rhodes was a graduate assistant coach at UNC Wilmington in 2014. He developed and presented opposing team scouts and assisted in post player individual workout development plan and workouts.
Before taking over his graduate level positing at UNCW, he was a team manager from 2012-14, coordinating video operations and assisting in creating the team playbook.
Prior to college, Rhodes was the head boys basketball coach at Neuse Charter Middle School in Smithfield, N.C., starting in October of 2009. He led the team to an overall record of 46-0, three regular season championships and three conference tournament championships.
Rhodes earned his undergraduate and graduate degree from UNC Wilmington. He earned his bachelor’s of arts degree in 2014 and his master’s of arts in 2016.
