Freddie McLean is in his third season as an assistant basketball coach for the North Carolina A&T women's basketball program. His primary duties consist of handling team travel, scouting, preparing game plans, scheduling, recruiting, developing players, exchanging film and conducting administrative duties.

During the 2009-10 season, he was assigned the duties and responsibilities of being both the practice and offensive coordinator. This helped the Lady Aggies earn the 2010 MEAC regular-season title and a WNIT Final 16 appearance as they posted wins over Wake Forest and Charlotte, becoming the first HBCU to win two consecutive games in an NCAA sanctioned postseason tournament.

McLean joined head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs' staff just prior to the 2008-09 season. He made an immediate impact by providing energy and a positive attitude to the program. The Aggies went on to capture the MEAC regular-season and tournament titles. They also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they faced ACC Champion Florida State.

 McLean was a decorated U.S. Naval officer. Over distinguished 10-year military career, he received numerous awards for outstanding performance in ship navigation. McLean has three Navy Achievement Medals and 14 letters of commendation recognizing his tireless work as a U.S. Navy recruiter with the U.S. Navy Recruiting District in Raleigh, N.C. McLean's basketball coaching experience includes an assistant coaching stint with Rockingham Community men's basketball team during the 2007-08 season under head coach Charles Jackson, a former N.C. A&T men's basketball player. Among McLean's duties was game preparation and player development.

A native of Raeford, N.C., where he played point guard at Hoke County High School. McLean led Hoke County to the Southeastern Conference Championship and a playoff appearance during the 1982-83 season. A two-year letterman, his accolades on the court included first-team all-conference, honorable mention all-state and Cape Fear Region Athlete of the Week honors.

McLean is a member of the Golden Key International Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He and his wife Andrea live in McLeansville, N.C.
