North Carolina A&T head softball coach Patti Raduenz announced the hiring of Theresa Stephens to be her assistant coach on Sept. 17, 2019.
Stephens comes to N.C. A&T with 14 years of collegiate coaching experience. Five of those years was as a head coach on the Division I level. Her most recent stop was in Raleigh as the assistant softball coach at William Peace University for one year.
Before William Peace, Stephens was the head coach at N.C. Central University in Durham from 2011-15. Stephens spent the previous three years at Campbell University as the top assistant coach. During her time at Campbell, the Camels won the 2009 Atlantic Sun regular-season conference championship. The following year, they took home the A-SUN tournament championship.
Prior to Campbell, Stephens spent a year at UNC Pembroke as an assistant coach for one season. During that season, Pembroke was named the 2008 NFCA DII Coaching Staff of the Year and won the Peach Belt regular-season and tournament championships. The Braves also hosted their first softball regional in school history that season and finished 11thin the country. The program set 33 school records and finished the season with a 46-14 record and a 17-1 conference record.
Stephens received her first head coaching opportunity at Meredith College in Raleigh where she led the Avenging Angels for two seasons. Stephens began her coaching career at Greensboro College in 2003 as an assistant softball coach and spent two seasons there.
As a student-athlete, Stephens spent her first two seasons playing softball for S.C. State University in Orangeburg, S.C. She transferred to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1999. She completed her undergraduate degree at Temple in 2003 in the field of therapeutic recreation. As a sophomore at SCSU, she was a first-team Onnidan All-American and in her freshman season, she was invited to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Stephens is currently attending Southern New Hampshire University Graduate School. She is seeking her athletic administration certification and a master’s in sports management.
