Jelani Smalls started as a volunteer softball assistant coach in 2016 under former North Carolina A&T head coach Kenya Peters. He also served as a student manager until graduating from N.C. A&T in 2018.
When Patti Raduenz became head coach in July of 2019, she retained Smalls as a graduate assistant. Smalls left the program in 2020, but returned in 2021. Smalls will assist in coaching outfielders and hitters.
A native of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Smalls graduated from N.C. A&T with a bachelor’s degree in sports science and fitness management with a concentration in business administration.Â
Smalls is expected to complete his master’s degree by the end of 2020 in adult education.
