Bruce Martin was appointed to be the special assistant to head men’s basketball coach on August 1, 2020.
Martin's main responsibilities will include program management and operations as well as helping the program with fundraising efforts. In the three years before coming to A&T, Martin was the head coach and post grad basketball director at Washington Academy.
Before working at Washington Academy, Martin spent time in various coaching capacities, including a professional stint as head coach of the Ockelbo Basketball Club in Sweden. He returned to the U.S. and spent time at Radford (2006-07), Texas Pan-American (2007-2009), Davis & Elkin College (2009-13).
Martin was also an academic advisement coordinator for men’s basketball and swimming and diving in 2013-14 at the University of Wyoming before coming on staff at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Florida A&M (2014-17).
Martin, a 1994 Clemson graduate, spent time as an assistant coach at Francis Marion University from 1995-97 after graduating from Clemson. In 1997-98, he had his first stint in Wyoming as the graduate manager under Larry Shyatt before following Shyatt to Clemson. Martin served as Clemson’s graduate assistant for the 1998-99 season before becoming an assistant athletic director for basketball operations for five years, 1999-2003.
As a graduate assistant, Martin helped the Tigers to a 20-win season and runner-up finish in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). As a four-year letterwinner at Clemson from 1991-95, he shot 44.4 percent from 3-point range, third best in the ACC, his senior season.
During his Clemson career, Martin was named to the ACC academic honor roll in 1992-93 and 1993-94.
He played his final year as a graduate student when he was a team captain and helped Clemson to the National Invitation Tournament. Clemson's 1992-93 and 1993-94 teams also were chosen for the NIT.
