Ahmad Dorsett enters his second season as the North Carolina A&T men's basketball's associate head coach. He also serves as the Aggies recruiting coordinator. Before his promotion to associate head coach, Dorsett served as an assistant at N.C. A&T starting in 2018.
Since Dorsett’s arrival, he has helped lead the Aggies to consecutive winning seasons and a 25-7 (.781) MEAC Conference record, with the 25 MEAC wins being the most for the program in consecutive seasons in 31 seasons. This success led to Dorsett being recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the MEAC by Jeff Goodman (Stadium) in 2020.
Dorsett arrived at N.C. A&T following seven seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at High Point University, helping lead the program to a 119-99 (.546) overall and 76-46 (.623) Big South Conference record. Dorsett assisted High Point to four Big South Conference Regular Season Championships and four post-season berths, including the first Big South Regular Season Championship and post-season berth in the program’s Division I history in 2012-13. In 2012-13, High Point also won the most single-season (23) and Big South Conference (13) games in the program’s Division I history.
The Long Island, NY native has also had assistant coaching stints at Mount St. Mary’s (2010- 11), Bowie State University (2009-10), University of Mount Olive (2008-09), and Longwood University (2003-04). He was the head boys basketball coach at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Va., for four seasons.
Overall, Dorsett has recruited and developed 13 all-conference selections, as well as two Players of the Year, one Defensive Player of the Year, one Freshman of the Year, and one Most Improved Player.
Dorsett played collegiately at George Mason from 1996 to 2000. The 1996-97 Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team selection and eventual Team Captain helped lead the program to two CAA Regular Season Championships, one CAA Tournament Championship, and one NCAA Tournament berth.
Dorsett received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science and health promotion from George Mason in 2000. Dorsett and his wife Debbie have three daughters: Leiannah, Ahmara & Timiah.
