North Carolina A&T head football coach Vincent Brown named Kenard Lang an assistant football coach for the program on April 5, 2023. Lang, a 10-year NFL standout, will coach the Aggies defensive linemen.
Before coming to N.C. A&T, Lang spent two seasons as the head coach of his high school alma mater, Maynard Evans. Before spending time at Maynard Evans in Orlando, Fla., he spent two seasons (2019-20) as the defensive line coach at Florida International University (FIU). In addition,
Lang served as a defensive analyst for the FIU Panthers in 2018.
During the 2019 season at FIU, coached NFL rookie free agent Teair Tart, who signed with the Tennessee Titans. The Panthers improved their defense thanks to Tart, Alexy Jean-Baptiste, and Chris Whittaker. Jean-Baptiste and Whittaker combined for eight sacks and 13 tackles for loss along the Panthers defensive line.
Lang played for the Washington Redskins (1997-01), Cleveland Browns (2002-05) and Denver Broncos (2006) during his 10-year career. Washington selected Lang with the 17th overall pick of the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft after playing for the University of Miami under Butch Davis.
Davis and Lang also connected in Cleveland when Davis served as the Browns head coach from 2002-2004. Lang ended his NFL career with 449 tackles, 55 sacks and 15 forced fumbles. After leaving the NFL, Lang started coaching with his first stop at Jones High School in Orlando. Before the 2013 season, Wekiva High School in Apopka, Fla., named Lang its head coach.
Lang graduated from the University of Miami in 1997 with a degree in liberal arts. Lang has two daughters, Aubrey and Mia.
