North Carolina A&T head football coach Shawn Gibbs named Charles Cheek as the Aggies' outside linebackers and rovers coach on March 23, 2026. Cheek returns to Aggieland after a four-year stretch working with the linebackers and serving as a defensive quality control coach from 2011-2015.
Cheek rejoins A&T after working with the program from 2011-15, coaching linebackers and handling defensive quality control. With eight years of high school coaching experience, Cheek has most recently served as the defensive coordinator, health/PE teacher, and head boys' track coach at Starr's Mill High School in Fayetteville, Ga., starting in 2024.
Cheek spent two years as an assistant coach at Southern University. As a Grambling State student-athlete, he was the team captain in 2010, playing tight end, running back, and fullback. He helped lead a 1,466-yard rushing attack in 2010 and made the President's List in 2007 and 2009.
Cheek earned a bachelor's in business management from Grambling State in 2011 and a master's in sports administration from North Carolina A&T in 2015. He also holds master's and specialist degrees in special education from the University of West Georgia.
Cheek and his wife, Krissy, have two children: Charlie and Camryn.
