North Carolina A&T head football coach Vincent Brown announced Almondo Curry as an assistant football coach on the Aggies staff on April 5, 2023. Curry will serve as the Aggies defensive backs coach, mainly focused on cornerbacks.
Curry spent two seasons at Towson University as the football program’s cornerbacks coach. In 2022, cornerback Robert Javier ranked first in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in pass breakups and second in total passes defended, earning Phil Steele All-CAA second-team accolades.
Before his time in Towson, Md., Curry spent a year at Maryville College. The year prior, he served as William & Mary’s quality control and defensive analyst. During the 2015 and ‘16 seasons, Curry was an assistant coach at Virginia State University. The Trojans went 15-6 during his time, putting together back-to-back winning seasons.
Curry received his start in collegiate coaching at Division III Christopher Newport University, helping the Captains win 22 games over his three-year stay from 2012-14. Curry also spent time at Hampton High School, his alma mater, from 2008-10. In 2011, he was the defensive coordinator for Heritage High School.
At the University of Virginia, he served as the Wahoos team captain and secured All-ACC honors as a senior cornerback. He led the conference in interceptions in his senior season with UVa.
After his collegiate career, he played three years in the Canadian Football League for the Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was the league’s East defensive rookie of the year in 2004.
Curry graduated from UVa., in 2004 with a degree in sociology. He lives with his wife, Lameka, and two daughters, Dazja and Ava.
