Nick DeTringo

North Carolina A&T head baseball coach announced the hiring of Nick DeTringo as an assistant coach in September of 2025. DeTringo will serve as the catchers coach, while assisting with A&T’s hitters and recruiting talent to A&T.

DeTringo spent the previous three seasons at nearby Greensboro College, serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. He also assisted with hitters, infielders, and the third base coach. 

In his first season working with the Pride’s offense, GC led the conference in batting average, triples, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and on-base plus slugging percentage. The Pride also set single-season program records in batting average, runs scored, hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, walks, and sacrifice flies. Nationally, GC ranked among the top 30 Division III schools in slugging percentage, runs scored, on-base percentage, batting average, hits, doubles, triples, and walks. 

In 2025, the Pride led the conference in all hitting categories and broke single-season program records in doubles, hits, home runs, total bases, batting average, slugging percentage, on-base plus percentage, runs scored, RBIs, walks, hit-by-pitch, and sacrifices. GC led the nation in doubles and doubles per game. In addition, nationally, the Pride ranked second in hits, sixth in runs scored, 12th in runs per game, 12th in batting average, 15th in slugging percentage, and 18th in on-base percentage. In addition, they were tied for ninth in triples and tied for 11th in sac flies. 

DeTringo started his career at his alma mater, the University of Tampa, as an assistant baseball coach. While there, the Spartans won the Sunshine State Conference championship. As a result, Tampa made an appearance in the NCAA South Region Finals. At the University of Tampa, DeTringo coached Golden Glove winner Jordan Lala. 

In 2021-22, DeTringo coached outfielders, assisted with the hitters, provided scouting reports, and provided in-game coaching. He also assisted with the Spartans Baseball Camps. DeTringo spent two years as an assistant coach at Tampa Preparatory School. He has also served as a travel ball coach, working with players from 12U to 18U levels with Hit Factory and Empire Baseball. 

After college, DeTringo signed a professional contract with the Ottawa Champions of the Can-Am League, where he earned Hitter of the Week once. DeTringo was a utility player at St. Petersburg College and Tampa. He won a national championship with Tampa in 2019. DeTringo made the all-tournament team in addition to securing first-team All-Sunshine State Conference accolades and second-team All-Region recognition. DeTringo also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-District honors. 

DeTringo hit .321 for his career and a .391 on-base percentage and a .507 slugging percentage. He owns the Spartans’ record for single-game stolen bases (5). DeTringo graduated from Tampa Preparatory School, where he was a four-year letterman under head coach AJ Hendrix. 
He led his team to a regional championship and played in the state tournament. He received Class 3A All-State honors and 3A Academic All-State accolades. He was named All-Hillsborough County four consecutive years and graduated as the school’s all-time leader in hits (11).
