North Carolina A&T head baseball coach Ben Hall named Elliott McCummings, an assistant coach for the Aggies program on Oct. 1, 2021.
He works primarily with the outfielders and assists head coach Ben Hall with the offense. McCummings also spearheads recruiting efforts for the program.
McCummings has developed a speedy, defensive-minded outfield during his time with A&T. In 2021, left fielder Cameran Brantley recorded three assists and did not commit an error in 120 fielding attempts. In his first two seasons with A&T, center fielder TJ Ash recorded seven combined assists.
Before A&T, McCummings spent one year as an assistant at Austin Peay. There, he worked with the outfielders and hitters while serving as the governor’s camp director. McCummings also spent time at Radford in 2019 as a volunteer assistant. The Highlanders posted a 30-7 record that season, including a 19-8 mark in Big South Conference play.
He started coaching in 2018 as an assistant at Louisburg College. During his time there, he worked with the team’s outfielders and helped the Hurricanes post a 31-22 record. Before his coaching days, McCummings was a standout player as well. In two seasons at Jacksonville State, he was a career .320 hitter with eight home runs and 75 RBI in 110 games.
McCummings initially played at Potomac State College in West Virginia. He was a NJCAA second-team All-America freshman in 2013 after batting .394 with 50 runs scored and 57 RBI. He helped the Catamounts win the Region XX Championship with a 40-15 record and finished his junior college career at Potomac as the career hits leader (143).
McCummings earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Jacksonville State in 2017.
