Biography

A talented sprinter who could make a big impact as a freshman…Came  to North Carolina A&T as a state champion in two different classifications and national medalist…Had a productive freshman season on the track…Posted a personal-best 48.48 in the 400 meter outdoor and a 49.40 in the 400 meter indoor.

2013-14 Indoor Season: Competed in five indoor meets…Opened the season by finishing first in the 400 at 49.51 and helped the 1600 meter relay team place second in 3:22.90 at the JDL College Kick-off…Placed sixth in the 400 at the Wake Forest Invitational with a personal-best 49.40…At the same meet, he and his 1600 meter relay team finished third in 3:17.93…Placed fourth in the 400 at the High Point Panther Team Challenge on Feb. 6 with a time of 52.74.

2014 Outdoor Season: Competed in seven meets during the outdoor season… Helped the 1600 meter relay team place first at the Charlotte 49er Classic at 3:10.79…Ran a personal-best of 48.48 in the 400 at the Aggie Last Chance on May 11.

High School: Competed four years varsity at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute…Was a two-time 400-meter state champion, once in Class 3A as a sophomore and once in Class 4A as a senior…Was a three-time AAU medalist…Named 2012 Baltimore City MVP…Was a three-time New Balance Nationals Medalist after finishing first in the 2013 Emerging Elite 400 meter, second in the 2012 Emerging Elite 400 meter and fourth in the 2010 Freshman 400 meter…Placed third in the 2011 AAU 15-16 year old 400 meters…Was on the 3A 2010 4x400 meter relay state championship team…His personal-best in the 200 meters was 21.80, 35.43 in the 300 meters and 48.41 in the 400 meters.  

Personal: Full name is Dorian Derrell Claggett…He is the son of Monika Cheatham and Damien Claggett and was born on November 22, 1995…Has two siblings,  Delaney and Donovan Claggett…Majors in pre physical therapy…Plans to be a physical therapist after graduation…Outside of track and field, Claggett is involved in the Salvation Army, Lupus Walk and a physical therapy firm…As a pre-competition ritual Claggett does a long warm up, gets hydrated and listens to music…After his grandmother died in 2010, he decided to dedicate all his races to her… The following year he won his first state championship in the 400 meters and qualified for the 2011 AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans, where he placed third.
