GREENSBORO – Northeastern's offense kept up its pace in a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) baseball series against North Carolina A&T at War Memorial Stadium.
As a result, Northeastern completed a three-game sweep of A&T on Sunday, defeating the Aggies 15-5. Sunday's game mostly followed the pattern of the other two games at The War. The Huskies swung their bats extremely well, scoring 42 runs and producing 40 hits over three games. They also benefited from 19 extra base hits, seven home runs, and 24 walks to improve to 23-16 overall and 13-5 in CAA play.
The Aggies did produce some offense over the final two days of the series, yet dropped to 10-28 overall and 3-15 in the CAA. Junior
Marcus Bradshaw homered, and sophomores
JT Taylor and
Bruce Wyche had multiple-hit games. The Aggies even took the lead for the first time in the series on Sunday. A&T right-handed starter
Angel Ortiz (L, 0-2) gave up a hit in the first and pitched around an error in the second to hold Northeastern's offense scoreless.
Northeastern right-handed starter Ryan Griffin (W, 6-0) opened the home second by hitting Bradshaw with a 2-2 pitch. Freshman
Ryan Allen followed with a well-executed bunt single to put two runners on. A sacrifice bunt from freshman
Adrian Gonzalez moved Bradshaw and Allen into scoring position for sophomore
Boaz Harper. Harper grounded out to first, but it allowed Bradshaw to cross for a 1-0 A&T lead.
A flyout ended the inning. The Huskies then scored 12 straight runs, including six in the third. Feinberg's RBI single tied it 1-1 before Brinker's three-run double made it 4-1. Criscola's two-run triple capped the six-run third. A&T held Northeastern quiet until the fifth, when Criscola's two-run double and Harmony's three-run homer extended the lead.
After the Huskies added a run in the sixth, the Aggies answered in the home half. Taylor and Wyche singled with one out, then Bradshaw drove a line shot over the right-field wall to cut Northeastern's lead to 12-4—his third homer of the season. A&T added a final run in the ninth when a
Jason Campo double set up a
Reginald Tuggle III groundout RBI.
Next up for A&T is a 6 p.m. midweek game against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Tuesday at The War.
