ORLANDO, Fla. – North Carolina A&T women's tennis opened its spring break trip against a difficult opponent in the Temple Owls of the Atlantic-10. Despite some close matches in doubles play, and one in singles play, the Owls defeated the Aggies 7-0 on Monday at the USTA Tennis Center on the campus of the USTA National Campus.
The Aggies fell to 2-2 during the 2026 season. The Owls improved to 5-4, starting strong by taking the doubles point at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Dorsa Cheraghi and senior Hana Sherif lost to Mari Christoforidou and Yasmin Costa, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, A&T juniors
Tabeth Tadoum and
Randy Rakotoarilala lost to Irmak Ozturk and Tanni Zhou, 6-4. After securing the doubles point, the Owls had to fight hard to maintain their sweep.
A&T's No. 1 doubles team, sophomores
Flavia Villegas and
Juana Gomez Weiss, battled Kawaratani Frasser and Maria Martinez with vigor. Frasser and Martinez ultimately won in a tiebreaker, 7-6. Temple used their doubles momentum in singles play. Yasmin Costa extended Temple's lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cheraghi at No. 4 singles. Temple also won at No. 2 singles, where Christoforidou defeated Rakotoarilala 6-4, 6-2.
The Owls clinched the win at No. 3 singles. Frasser won over Gomez Weiss despite a competitive first set, where Frasser just outlasted Gomez Weiss, 7-6. Frasser had an easier time in the second set, winning 6-0. Tadoum had a competitive second set at No. 5 singles but still lost 6-2, 7-6 to Zhou. Villegas also looked impressive in a loss.
Villegas lost her first set at No. 6 singles, 7-5. Nina Anderson then won the second set, 7-6, to win in complete sets. At No. 1 singles, El Sherif won the first set, 7-6, over Ozturk. Ozturk took the second set, 6-4, and then won the tiebreaker, 10-3.
The Aggies will continue their spring break trip on Thursday with a matchup against another A-10 school, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
