Locke's Layup Gives A&T Double Overtime Win

D'Mya Tucker becomes the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 points for her career.

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior  Paris Locke made a move to the right, crossed over to the left and drove to the basket and scored on a layup to give the North Carolina A&T women's basketball team its first Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) win of the season Friday night, 81-80 in double overtime, over the Northeastern Huskies at the Cabot Center.

A&T improved to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Aggies are undefeated against the Huskies, winning their first five contests against their new conference mates. The loss dropped the Huskies to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Graduate guard D'Mya Tucker added a season-high 21 points, giving her 1,002 career points. Tucker is the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 points exclusively in an Aggies uniform. Tucker reached the historic milestone on a layup with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter off a pass from freshman Jamyia Lindsey, who was in middle school when Tucker started her collegiate career at A&T during the 2020-21 season.

Tucker's 21 points tie a career-high against a Division I opponent. She had 23 points against Division III Guilford College during the 2023-24 season. Locke added 14 points, six rebounds and a career-best eight assists while playing a career-high 46 minutes. Lindsey posted career highs in points (16) and assists (4).

A&T trailed 21-9 in the first quarter on two Taylor Holohan free throws with 1:13 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Aggies went 6-for-11 (.545) from the field and 8-for-10 (.800) from the free throw line in the second quarter to rally. Two free throws from freshman Ja'naya Meyers put the Aggies down by one, 31-30, at halftime.

The Huskies did push their lead back to eight four minutes into the second half before the Aggies roared back again. The Aggies outscored the Huskies 18-4 over the remaining six minutes of the third quarter, capped off with Tucker finding Lindsay for a 3-pointer to end the period and give the Aggies a 55-49 lead going into the fourth.

Sophomore Rachel Griffin, who scored a career-high nine points, gave the Aggies their biggest lead of the game at 63-53 on a layup with 6:40 remaining in regulation. But it would be Northeastern's turn to rally. Over the next five minutes, Northeastern outscored A&T 12-4, culminating in two free throws from Holohan to cut A&T's lead to 67-65. But two free throws from Lindsey gave the Aggies a four-point advantage with 51 seconds to play in regulation.

A layup from Locke put the Aggies ahead by five, 71-66, with 22 seconds to play. Yirsy Quélíz kept Northeastern's hopes alive, however, with a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining. A&T junior Darrionna Howard made one of two free throws to put the Aggies ahead 72-69 with nine seconds on the clock. A Northeastern timeout helped the Huskies move the ball to halfcourt, where Quélíz came through again.

Quélíz splashed a three to tie the game, sending the game into its first overtime. Quélíz had 19 points, six rebounds and three assists on 5-for-9 shooting from 3-point range.

A&T led 81-78 on two free throws from Lindsey with 32 seconds remaining in the first overtime. Thirteen seconds later, Camryn Collins cut the lead to one on a layup and was fouled by Locke. Collins failed to tie the game by missing the free throw, but Quélíz did grab the offensive rebound for the Huskies. Officials called Lindsey for a loose-ball foul, sending Quélíz to the free throw line. Quélíz made one of two free throws to tie the game at 81-81 with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Locke had a chance to win the game but missed on a driving layup to send the game into overtime No. 2. She didn't miss the game-winning layup in the second overtime. The two teams combined for only two field goals in the second overtime. Northeastern's Justice Tramble gave the Huskies an 83-81 lead 25 seconds into the second overtime. Locke made a free throw with 3:47 to play to cut that lead to one.

The two teams traded empty possessions over the next 3 ½ minutes. Lindsey got the Aggies the ball back with 35 seconds to play by taking a charge from Morgan Matthews. After an A&T timeout, the Aggies went to Locke for the game-winner. Holohan scored a game-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds.

A&T will travel to the Long Island, New York area to face the Stony Brook University Seawolves Sunday afternoon at 1.
