GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T landed two players on the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) preseason all-conference teams. The league released its all-conference teams on Tuesday along with the conference's preseason predictions.
Junior third baseman Trinity Glover and sophomore right-handed pitcher Lauren Hardy made the preseason All-CAA honorable mention. The Aggies, who went 12-38 overall and 4-23 in league play, were picked to finish fifth in the CAA South Division. Head coaches voted Elon as the South Division favorite, followed by Campbell, UNC Wilmington, College of Charleston, A&T, and Hampton. Stony Brook is the North Division favorite, followed by Hofstra, Towson, Monmouth, and Drexel. UNCW's Madison Biddle is the preseason player of the year.
Glover batted .300 with eight doubles, seven home runs, and 23 RBIs. She ranked seventh in the conference and led the Aggies in on-base percentage plus slugging percentage (1.028). Glover tied with two others to rank seventh in the conference in homers, and she ranked ninth in slugging percentage (.622). Glover also led the Aggies in on-base percentage (.406). Meanwhile, Hardy provided the Aggies with a valuable utility player last season.
Hardy, an Indiana University transfer, had a superb first year in Aggieland. Hardy led the Aggies in ERA at 4.84. She also posted a 5-6 record, making 27 appearances and 12 starts. She recorded five complete games, walked 46, and struck out 46 in 81 innings pitched. Her walks plus hits per innings pitched average was 1.93.
The Aggies open the season in Macon, Ga., as a part of the Heart of Georgia Classic tournament hosted by Mercer University, February 6-8. Their first opponent will be the Maine Black Bears on February 6 at 12:30 p.m.
