SPARTANBURG, SC — North Carolina A&T men's golf shared fourth place with Ohio University in The Carolina Cup tournament held at the par 72, 6,929-yard Carolina Country Club golf course on Monday. At one point in the tournament, the Aggies shared the lead.

Inclement weather changed The Carolina Cup schedule, which was initially scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Instead, the nine teams played 27 holes on Sunday and 27 on Monday.  The Aggies held the lead after the first 18 holes before carding a 15-over (297-294-303) –894.

Samford claimed first place, improving from shooting a first-round 301 to lowering its score to 290 in the second before shooting 293 to end the tournament and finish with an 884. Radford and Tennessee Tech finished in a second-place tie, four shots behind Samford at 288 as Tennessee Tech surged with a final-round 293 to finish ahead of A&T and Ohio.

Sophomore Javier Morgado led the Aggies as a top 10 finisher, finishing in a three-way tie for eighth place after shooting 5-over (71-72-78—221). Morgado's opening front nine on Sunday included two birdies and a bogey as he made the turn at 1-under.  He gave two shots back on the par-4 389-yard 10th. Morgado quickly refocused, posting birdies on the par-5, 514-yard 13th and the par-5, 515-yard 18th, putting him at 1-under after Round 1.

Morgado's second started with a birdie on the par-4, 422-yard first. A bogey on eight gave him a 36 after nine holes. His back nine began with three straight pars before securing another birdie on 13. He cooled off with a couple of late bogeys on 14 and 15 but finished the day strong with another birdie on 18. His pace slowed in the final round as he started with three bogeys.

He used the par-5 553-yard fourth to settle in with a birdie but gave a shot back with a bogey on seven. Morgado had a good stretch of five straight pars before birdieing 13 for the third time during the tournament. It was a rough close with a double bogey on 16 and bogeys on 17 and 18.

Last week's Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Golfer of the Week, Camilo Marin, finished in a four-way tie for 18th place at 9-over (73-75-77—225). Marin's first round included an eagle on 18. He also added two first-round birdies to account for his 73. He had a birdie and two bogeys on his front nine in the second round.

Marin's second round back nine included six pars, a bogey and a double bogey before he moved to 3-under on 18 for the tournament with a birdie.  However, he struggled with 18 during the final round with a double bogey. He carded five bogeys on his final round but did secure two birdies. Sophomore Pedro Pereira contributed a 78-74-74—227 performance while junior Drew Walker was right behind with 75-80-73—228. Mauricio Alvarado finished with 89-73-82—244.

The men will return to the golf course when they participate in the SAS HBCU Championship, scheduled for October 11-12 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC.
