KOHLER, Wis. – The North Carolina A&T men's golf team finished second at the PGA Works Championship after shooting a third-round 43-over 331 during difficult weather conditions at the par 72, 6,743-yard historic Whistling Straits golf course on Wednesday.
The Aggies posted a three-day total of 310-278-331—919 to finish at 55-over. Prairie View A&M moved up two spots after Tuesday's play after shooting a 325 to finish in a second-place tie with the Aggies. Both teams finished behind the 2025 PGA Works Champion in the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (UAPB), who shot 291-280-316—887 over three rounds to win at 23-over.
After entering the final day 10 shots off the lead in third place behind UAPB's Jose Berenguel, freshman Javier Morgado finished in third place after shooting 78-65-77—220 to finish at 4-over, 11 shots behind Berenguel, the 2025 PGA Works Championship individual medalist. Morgado tied a program record for the lowest scoring round on Tuesday with his 65. He is the first Aggie to shoot 7-under on a course.
Berenguel won the tournament with a three-round 71-64-74—209 to finish at 7-under, 10 shots better than the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Max Osten, who moved up two places on Wednesday to finish second. A&T freshman Pedro Pereira also finished in the top 10 after shooting a three-round 76-68-83—227.
Pereira finished at 11-over and ended the tournament in a three-way tie for eighth place. Morgado started his round with three straight pars before a bogey on the par-4 fourth. He recovered by carding a four on the 543-yard par 5, fifth. Morgado again went into the red numbers with a birdie on the 205-yard par 3, seventh. Unfortunately, back-to-back double bogeys moved him to 3-over after the front nine.
He regained his rhythm to par the first three holes on the back nine before a bogey on No. 13, a par 4. After four straight pars, he bogeyed the par 4, 18th. Morgado made 12 birdies at Whistling Strait at the PGA Works Championship.
Pereira posted nine birdies during the week, and he added an eagle. Pereira posted one birdie on Wednesday, a three on the par 4, 422-yard No. 18. Meanwhile, freshman Agib Hughes shot 77-73-87—237 to finish the tournament at 21-over. He finished in a three-way tie for 25th. Sophomore Camilo Marin had a three-day score of 79-72-89—240 to finish in a tie for 30th. Marin birdied the 360-yard par 4, 14th on Wednesday.
A&T's season comes to an end after the Aggies had a strong showing with an impressive group of freshmen heading into next season.
