GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T outdoor track and field teams added to their collection of weekly awards from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
A&T won both field athlete of the week awards from the CAA after the Aggies hosted the Aggie Classic this past weekend at Marcus T. Johnson Track. Graduate thrower Julieth Nwosu earned the women's field athlete of the week, and sophomore jumper Xavier Partee captured the men's field athlete of the week. In addition, junior Jason Holmes claimed CAA Men's Athlete of the Week after a stellar showing at the Aggie Classic.
Nwosu has her fourth weekly honor of the season, which is a career high for her. She threw a personal record (PR) in the women's discus on Saturday at Marcus T. Johnson Track, with her best toss landing at 171 feet, 1 inch. It moved Nwosu into the No. 2 slot in the CAA behind Hamptons' Damali Williams (174 feet, 8 inches) ahead of the 2025 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by A&T at Marcus T. Johnson Track.
She put herself in contention for qualifying for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round in the discus, ranking just outside the top 24 with the 30th-best throw in the East Region. Nwosu also finished sixth in the shot put at the Aggie Classic with a throw of 42 feet, 8 ¼ inches.
Nwosu still leads the CAA in the shot put after measuring out at 53 feet, 10 ½ inches at N.C. State's Raleigh Relays on March 27. She is still in contention for qualifying for the East Prelim because the mark ranks 21st in the East Region.
Partee had a career day at the Aggies home track on Saturday. Partee jumped 51 feet, 5 inches to win the Aggie Classic men's triple jump. It marked a PR for Partee and moved him into the No. 2 ranking in the CAA behind freshman teammate Ty'Heak Buie. Partee's PR ranks him 12th in the East Region and 27th nationally. He also placed eighth in the long jump at the Aggie Classic with a leap of 22 feet, 3 inches.
Meanwhile, Holmes made a major jump in the 110-meter hurdles. Holmes ran a season-best 13.45 to win the 110H at the Aggie Classic. As a result, he became the No. 1 hurdler in the conference, passing Northeastern's Ehtan Exilhomme, who had the No. 1 spot since running a 13.54 on April 11.
Holmes is now ranked sixth in the East Region and 13th nationally. He also finished fifth in the men's 200 meters on Saturday after posting a PR of 20.77. It moved him into the top 5 in the CAA ahead of the conference meet, where the Aggies will be looking for significant points in the sprints.
The Aggies will not compete again until the CAA outdoor championships at Marcus T. Johnson Track, May 14-15.
