SWAINTON, NJ – North Carolina A&T freshman Pedro Pereia had the best round of any Aggie during the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Golf Championships this week, posting a 74 on the final day of action at the par 72, 7,274-yard Union League National Golf Course on Tuesday.
Pereira finished in a three-way tie for 33rd overall at 20-over 79-83-74—236. The Aggies placed 10th at the CAA championships at 86-over 315-325-310—950. The Elon Phoenix won its first-ever CAA title after a sudden-death playoff against the Drexel Dragons.
Both teams finished the tournament at 13-over 877 before playing the 530-yard par 5 18th in a playoff. Elon's Jack Wieler and Garrett Risner helped the Phoenix win the championship by sinking eagle puts to earn the CAA's automatic bid to the NCAA championships. Campbell finished third at 18-over 892.
Campbell's Henric Bjelke took medalist honors by shooting a three-round 6-under 65-70-75—210. He finished ahead of Drexel's Griffin Mitchell, who shot 1-under 215 for the tournament, followed by Delaware's Casper Nerpin's 217. There was a three-way tie for fourth.
Freshman Javier Morgado posted a 77 for A&T on his final day to shoot a three-round 21-over 76-84-77—237 to finish in a three-way tie for 36th. Sophomore Camil Marino and freshman Mauricio Alvarado finished in a four-way tie for 40th. Marin shot 80-78-81—239 for the week, and Alvardo shot 80-80-79—239.
Pereira started his round on the par 4 10th and parred his four holes before bogeying the par 4 14th. His remaining four holes on the back nine included two pars, a double bogey and a birdie. His birdie on the 340-yard par 4 17th moved him 2-over four the round. He parred the par 5 18th, moving to the front nine and posting a birdie on the 401-yard par 4 first.
His remaining eight holes included seven pars and one bogey to help him shoot an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Morgado started his day on the 10th with a par before running into a streak of three straight bogeys. He gathered himself and parred the final five holes on the back nine to shoot 39. After a bogey on No. 1, Morgado birdied the 541-yard par 5 second to move to 3-over for the round. Morgado bogeyed No. 3 and No.6 but parred the other six remaining holes on the front nine to shoot 38.
Alvardo carded three bogeys, three birdies and a double bogey on his back nine. He secured birdies on the 558-yard par 5 15th, the par 4 17th and the 18th. Marin also birdied 18th. Meanwhile, freshman Agib Hughes earned an eagle on Tuesday. It came on the 18th. Hughes shot an 80 on Friday. The Aggies season has not come to an end.
A&T will play in the annual PGA Works Championship at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wis., May 5-7.
