SWAINTON, NJ – Sophomore Camillo Marin and freshmen Mauricio Alvardo and Pedro Pereira led North Carolina A&T on Monday during the second day of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Golf Championships played at the par 72, 7,274-yard Union League National Golf Course.
A&T is in 10th place after shooting a second-round 325. Added to their first-round 315 has A&T at 64-over 640. Campbell leads the tournament by one stroke after shooting a 291 on Monday. The Fighting Camels are at 583 for the tournament, one stroke ahead of the Drexel Dragons, who made a move up the leaderboard on Monday by shooting a 283. Elon is third with a two-round 586.
Meanwhile, Marin moved up four positions on the leaderboard from Sunday to place 34th after shooting a second-round 78. He has a 14-over 158 for the tournament, two shots ahead of Alvarado, who shot a second-round 80. He was 38th on Monday and remained there after Monday's play. Pereira is at 18-over 162 after shooting an 83 on Monday.
Marin was 2-over after his first four holes before carding a birdie on the 571-yard par 5 fifth. That was followed by a double bogey and three straight pars as he made the turn at No. 10, birding the 395-yard par 4.
His next five holes included three bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie. Marin moved to 6-over on the day after his birdie on the 558-yard par 5 15th. He closed his round by birdieing the 530-yard par 5 18th. Alvarado shot 43 on the front nine before parring the first two holes on the back nine.
Alvardo went bogey, bogey and par before a birdie on 15 and a birdie on the 340-yard par 4 17th to shoot 37 on his final nine holes. Pereira shot 41 on his first nine holes before birdieing two holes on the back nine. Like Marin and Alvarado, Pereira birdie No. 15. Like Marin, he also birdied 18 to end his round.
Freshman Javier Morgado placed three birdies on his card. He shot 84 on Monday, posting his first birdie on the par 5 fifth. He also birdied the 434-yard par 4 13th before finishing his round with a birdie on 18. Freshman Ignacio Zapata shot an 86 during the second round and was one of four Aggies to birdie No. 15.
