DURHAM, NC – The North Carolina A&T men's and women's outdoor track and field teams made a quick trip east to Duke University for the Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium.
The Aggies competed in 16 events over Friday and Saturday with one top-five finish. The A&T men, who came into the week ranked 21st in the country, thanks partly to their 4x100-meter relay team that went into the weekend ranked sixth nationally, placed their B team on the track on Saturday. The foursome of graduate Brandon Nya, sophomore Nakhi Benjamin, freshman Correy McManus, and junior Jalen Booth-Mitchell placed second in 40.15.
They finished behind Kent State, who ran a 39.83. Booth-Mitchell also ran in the men's 200 meters, finishing seventh in 21.36. His run moved him into the top 10 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) at No. 9. Junior Ha'Mir Hampton just missed cracking the top in the CAA in the men's 400m after running a 48.73 to finish 33rd. Sophomore Braden Jordan moved into the top 10 in the 400-meter hurdles along with teammates Xzaviah Taylor (No. 1) and Thomas Smith IV (No. 7) after running a 55.74 at Duke to rank No. 10. He finished 23rd overall.
Off the track, freshman Alex Henry made a move into the Coastal Athletic Association top five with his performance in the men's shot put. He finished 14th with his best throw landing at 51 feet, 9 ¼ inches. That ranks him fifth in the conference.
The women had one top-10 finish over the weekend with sophomore Sady Moody finishing 10th in the discus with a toss of 137 feet, 6-inches.
A&T will get a chance to host a meet this weekend when the Aggie Invitational returns to Marcus T. Johnson Track, April 18-19. Field events start at 2 p.m. on Friday, and the first event on the track is at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the women's hammer starts at 10 a.m., and the women's 100H semifinals begin at noon.
