0705_MayaAvilezGREENSBORO – Victorya White's fantastic rookie campaign for the North Carolina A&T bowling team continued Thursday.

The postseason honors from the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) announced its postseason honors, with White collecting two incredible accolades. White, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year, made the NTCA's all-rookie team. In addition, White earned third-team All-America honors.

White joined senior teammate Maya Avilez on the third team, while fifth-year senior Laura Garcia earned honorable mention All-America recognition.

White became the first Aggie since Ana Olaya in 2018 to earn conference rookie of the year accolades. She won conference rookie of the week four times during the regular season, helping the Aggies win their fifth straight MEAC regular-season title and their fourth conference tournament in five seasons.

She ranked in the top 15 nationally in five statistical categories, including 14th in player composite performance index (PCPI), which measures the effectiveness of a bowler. She also ranks 11th in strike percentage (53.2). White helped the Aggies advance to the NCAA Rochester Regional, where she bowled well enough to put the Aggies on the verge of making the Final Four before falling to Youngstown State.

0707_GarciaIn March, White qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISCs) sponsored by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) by finishing with the third-highest qualifying time at the Allen Park, Mich. Sectional. White qualified among 171 bowlers at the sectional with a total pinfall of 1,298.

She will compete for the singles title in Las Vegas, April 14-19. Joining her in Vegas will be Avilez, who won the Allen Park Sectional in March with a total pinfall of 1,399 over six games.

Avilez won MEAC Bowler of the Year, making it the fifth straight year an Aggie has won the award. Avilez also carried the Aggies to the MEAC tournament title by earning Most Outstanding Bowler. Before the season, MEAC head coaches and sports information directors voted her MEAC Preseason Bowler of the Year. Avilez won conference bowler of the week three times, and last season, she earned NTCA Northeast Region All-America accolades. Avilez ranks 21st nationally in PCPI. She ranks in the top 15 nationally in 10 statistical categories. She ranks fourth nationally in makable spare percentage (88.6).

In her fifth season with the Aggies, Garcia earned first-team All-MEAC honors for the first time in her career. The lefty ranks 29th in the nation in PCPI. Garcia and the Aggies will go for a national championship in Vegas, April 17-19, at the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITCs) sponsored by USBC.
