WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The North Carolina A&T women's tennis team moved back into the winner's column on Sunday with a 6-0 win over the Winston-Salem State Rams at the WSSU Tennis Courts. The win snaps a six-match losing streak.
The Aggies were dominant throughout. Even the doubles point went their way, partly because the Rams did not have a No. 3 doubles team to field either. The other two doubles matches were all A&T. The No. 2 doubles team, freshmen Juana Gomez Weiss and Flavia Villegas, defeated Brooke Higgins and Kyla Burns 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Randy Rakotoarilala and junior Hana El Sherif defeated Semmie Moore and Iyana Nickens 6-1.
Gomez Weiss kept her hot streak going, winning her third straight with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over Nickens. Gomez Weiss improved to 9-3 this season and has a team-leading nine wins with Villegas. Villegas also improved to 9-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bezirae Black-Macon at No. 5 singles. Her win snapped a personal three-match losing streak.
Another impressive win occurred at No. 2 singles as Dorsa Cheragi defeated Higgins 6-0, 6-0. Rakotoarilala also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, defeating Moore. The Rams only took one game throughout singles, which occurred at No. 3 singles as El Sherif defeated Burns 6-0, 6-1. The win improves the Aggies to 6-6 and ends a rigorous part of their 2025 schedule.
A&T played four matches in five days, which would have been five in five days, but the matchup against North Carolina Central University (NCCU) got canceled. A&T's next match is a makeup date against Livingston College. The schedule originally had A&T and the Blue Bears playing on February 21, but inclement weather postponed the contest to March 28 in Salisbury, Md. at 2 p.m.
