Aggies Lose Midweek Game to ACC Opponent

JT Taylor hit his second home run of the season.

RALEIGH, NC – North Carolina A&T made a stop in Raleigh for a midweek game against the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Wolfpack on Tuesday and had a hard time keeping the Wolfpack off the basepaths in a 14-2 loss at Doak Field in seven innings.

On a staff day where the Aggies had nine players throw a pitch, NCSU walked 11 times. That, coupled with 10 NCSU hits, allowed The Pack to improve to 12-5 on the season. A&T got a home run from freshman JT Taylor but dropped to 3-11 on the season.

Right-hander Sean Duke made the start for the Aggies and pitched a scoreless first, throwing 18 pitches. Junior RHP Evan Hart (L, 0-1) went to the mound to open the home second and ran into trouble.

The Wolfpack second included back-to-back home runs from Brayden Fraasman and Ty Head, and Chris McHugh had a two-run RBI double, which helped NCSU take a 6-0 lead. NCSU added four more runs in the third inning, which included a two-run single from Matt Heavner.

NCSU put another four runs on the board in the fifth inning as Fraasman hit a bases-loaded three-run double down the left field line, giving the Wolfpack a 14-0 lead. Freshman RHP Taili Thompson entered the game in the fifth with Fraasman at second with no outs. Thompson proceeded to strike out the side to help the Aggies escape the inning.

Before Thompson pitched a scoreless sixth inning, the Aggies got on the board in the visitor's sixth. Senior AJ Jones walked on four pitches with one out in the sixth. After a groundout, Taylor stepped to the plate and belted a two-run homer to end NCSU's shutout efforts.

Junior Andrew Tinsley hit a single to open the seventh before NCSU RHP Derrick Smith struck out the side to end the game. Fraasman led The Pack by going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. The Aggies return to action for a rare three-game series against Gate City rival UNC Greensboro, starting Friday at 6 p.m. from UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The first pitch on Saturday is at 3 p.m., and Sunday's contest starts at 1 p.m.
